Awesome! That's
what I said when my class, Mrs. O'Grady's class, and Mrs. Grissom's class
passed a bridge with tracks on our field trip. I thought they were
train tracks, but they weren't, and that was O.K.
One of the places we went was the
Indian Council Bowl. The reason they call it that was because there
was a big drop and it looked like a bowl. The Indians held every
meeting there!
There are two stories about the Indian
Council Bowl. The first one is about a white woman and she walked
into it. The Indians tied her up and then they let her go.
No white woman went near the Council Bowl for 20 years!
The second thing we learned was that
people think that a meteor made the Indian Council Bowl.
When we went to Indian Rock, it made
me think of a cave. It was 90 feet around and over 30 feet high.
It is the biggest rock I've ever seen!
Each year Mrs. Grissom has this big,
bad dream. It happens the night before the field trip. It's
about all of the kids sitting under the rock and the rock starts to roll...
The Potterville Schoolhouse was a one-room
schoolhouse. Today it is a community house. It used to have
a wood stove in it between the two doors.
Back then (1852) punishment was what
I would think of as cruel. One of the punishments was sitting
in a corner with a dunce cap. Also, if the boys made fun of the girls
they would get ten lashes. I'm glad I didn't live back then!
Finally, we got back to our school. We had to get our things together quickly because it was almost time for dismissal. Man, that was such a cool trip!
